Physical Therapy Physical therapists (PTs) are health care professionals who diagnose and treat people of all ages who have medical problems or other health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives.
 |
PTs also help prevent conditions associated with loss of mobility through fitness and wellness programs that achieve healthy and active lifestyles. PTs are movement specialists that examine individuals and develop treatment plans using techniques that promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability. They provide care in hospitals, clinics, schools, sports facilities, and more.
The minimum educational requirement is a master's degree, yet most educational programs now offer the doctor of physical therapy (DPT) degree. |
Occupational Therapy Occupational therapists work with individuals and organizations, using occupation in all its forms to help them develop to their fullest potential. Occupations are skills for the job of living, including work, education, self-care, play, and leisure.
 |
Occupational therapy helps people engage in productive occupations that contribute to their physical, psychological and spiritual health, well-being, and overall quality of life. Occupational therapists work with people of all ages and ability levels in a variety of settings, such as hospitals, mental health programs, rehabilitation centers, long-term care facilities, community-based settings and public school systems. Occupational therapists also work as instructors and consultants. |
