Have you recently learned you have diabetes? —

PERRY, IA- Have you recently learned you have diabetes? Have you had diabetes for a while but not sure what to do? Do you want to know more about what you can do to make better decisions about your health?

Dallas County Hospital has self-management classes where you can learn what behaviors improve or worsen your blood sugars and strategies to overcome challenges related to diabetes. Through this series of four classes, you will learn about goal setting, problem solving, resources and partnering with healthcare providers to make informed choices about things they have identified as concerns.  “Each class is small on purpose so participants can have their learning needs met during the sessions,” stated Sally Swenson, Education Coordinator at Dallas County Hospital.

In addition to self-management classes, we have Diabetic Support Groups in both English and Spanish.  During support group participants reinforce self-management principles, discuss new treatment strategies they are trying, and share with each other the lifestyle changes which are helpful in living with diabetes.  The Spanish-speaking support group meets the 1st Thursday of every month and the English-speaking support group meets the 3rd Thursday of every month from 6-7 p.m.

For more information on class schedules and concerns, please contact Sally Swenson at 515-465-7563 or by visiting www.dallascohospital.org for class listings and more Wellness Education opportunities.
