DALLAS COUNTY HOSPITAL BEGINS CONSTRUCTION ON SECOND FLOOR ATRIUM SPACE

(PERRY, IA) JANUARY 2017— The 2017 new year is bringing planned changes to Dallas County Hospital’s second floor atrium space. As approved by Dallas County Hospital’s Board of Trustees, construction will begin on or before February 1, 2017 to finish space in the hospital that has in prior years been unused with completion by June 2017. The project will allow Dallas County Hospital to introduce a new service, and will accommodate the growing demand for community education programs.

Dallas County Hospital is pleased to announce a partnership with Senior Life Solutions that will occupy the east side of the renovated second floor atrium space. Dallas County Hospital’s Senior Life Solutions program will be an intensive outpatient group therapy program.  It is designed to meet the unique needs of older adults over the age of 65 struggling with depression and anxiety often related to aging.  Individuals may benefit from the Senior Life Solutions program if they are experiencing any of the following common indicators or triggers:

Recently experienced a traumatic event
Lost a spouse or close family member
Loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities
Changes in appetite
Difficulty sleeping
Loss of energy
Feelings of sadness or grief lasting more than two weeks
Feelings of worthlessness or hopelessness

A new, state of the art Wellness Education Center will occupy the west side of the atrium. The purpose of this space is to host community education classes and employee education, training, and required certification courses. Dallas County Hospital community education offerings have increased significantly in both number of classes and number of participants since 2013.  As the numbers continue to grow, more space is needed.

This space will be utilized for the following existing DCH classes:

DMACC
Tai Chi
Walk with Ease
Nurse Residency
CPR

In addition, several new community education classes will be introduced:

English Diabetic Education Class

Spanish Diabetic Education Class
