Diabetic Support Group to Meet in February
We all know how important exercise is, but for someone trying to control their diabetes, it’s especially important. While it’s no surprise that exercise can help control your weight, it can also have positive effects for those suffering from Type II diabetes. Taking the first step is hard, but with a little effort on your part, there is a way to get healthier and gain better control over your diabetes at the same time. To learn more, come to the Perry Area Diabetic Support Group on Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 7:00 pm in the Dallas County Hospital Community Room. Phyllis from Curves will be speaking about the benefits and importance of exercising and how to take that first step. For more information, please contact Cherie Booth, RN at 515-465-7544.
Heart Disease Prevention Program in Perry
Dallas County Hospital will once again be hosting the latest advancement in the prevention of Heart Disease: The Winnebago. The HeartReach Mobile Lab is not just any Winnebago; it is a traveling heart disease prevention program, offering heart risk assessments, vascular tests screening for stroke, blood pressure tests, cholesterol and blood sugar tests, body composition tests, and EKG analysis. It will again be coming Dallas County Hospital on Thursday, February 5th.
Research has shown that men and women who lead healthy lifestyles, including making healthy food choices, getting regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, and choosing not to smoke or drink excessively, can significantly decrease their risk of heart disease. The goal of this program is to teach people how to take charge of their heart and vascular health through early detection and discussing heart risk factors.
A variety of screening options are available from $35 to $135 to meet individual needs. Appointments are required for this event; please call 1-866-935-5432 to get this important test scheduled.
